Deep Sea Fishing Charters in South Padre Island Texas Offered by Megabite Sport Fishing Team
Thursday October 25, 2018 -- South Padre Island, Texas
Upstairs I could hear Captain Joel Jordan, fifth-generation Texan, talking on the phone. Although I could not hear the words, I could tell that it was animated -- in a good way!
He hung up the phone and called me to his office. His computer was open to photos of a boat that we’d been admiring in Louisiana.
“It’s under contract!” he proclaimed “I’m going next week to inspect it and take it for a sea trial on Lake Pontchartrain. We high five-d one another and began to prepare, once again, for life running a sport fish operation.
It had been about two years since we left Isla Mujeres, Mexico and our last sport fish project. Since then, Captain Joel and I and our MegaBite sport fishing brand had traveled to both Madeira, Portugal and neighboring Sao Miguel Island, Azores in search of big blue marlin.
We were also curious about the fishing conditions and opportunities that existed there. After spending two seasons in the Atlantic “kicking tires” we decided it was wisest to return to our Texas roots on the south Texas coast of South Padre Island.
Captain Joel was raised on the Katy Prairie outside of Houston by outdoor loving parents, Lyle and Patsy Jordan, proprietors of Jordan Farms. They were well known for their duck and goose hunting business and Joel was raised from a young age to work in the family business as a duck and goose hunting guide like his parents.
In the summers, the Jordans would pack the family up in the oversized Cadillac -- you know what they say : BIGGER in Texas! -- and head to the Texas coastal town of Port O’Connor where Lyle captained a boat for deep sea sport fishing charters.
It was with his father at a young age, that Captain Joel was introduced to sport fishing -- and a passion that runs hot to this day for offshore sport fishing, was born!
In his tenure as a captain and a sport fisherman, Captain Joel has owned and operated over 9 sport boats and has fished in locations such as: South Padre Island Texas, Port Mansfield Texas, Port O’Connor Texas, Port Lavaca Texas, Port Aransas Texas, Panama City Florida, Florida Keys, Punta Cana Dominican Republic, Nassau Bahamas, Provincal Turks and Caicos, Production Platforms Gulf of Mexico, Isla Mujeres Mexico, Bay Islands Honduras, Cabo San Lucas Mexico, Mazatlan Mexico, Huatulco Mexico, Flamingo Bay Costa Rica, Quepos Costa Rica, and Madeira Portugal.
Although Captain Joel has had opportunities to fish -- and catch! -- a large variety of species such as:
Sailfish, White marlin, Blue marlin, Tuna, Red fish, Dorado, Amberjack, Ling, King fish, Shark, Trout
His favorite South Padre fish are pelagic species like:
Sailfish, White marlin, Blue marlin, and Tuna
And those are the species that he specializes in catching for his offshore sport fishing charters in South Padre Island Texas.
Captain Joel and the MegaBite crew have a variety of SPI deep sea sport fishing packages available to accommodate your needs.
MegaBite Captain Joel Jordan says, “We prefer to allow our clients the opportunity to customize their fishing package to their wants and needs. For example, seasoned IGFA anglers most enjoy our full day offshore deep sea fishing packages that give them some really great shots at big game bill fish."
"Another popular option for serious anglers is our overnight oil production platform trip. There’s always adventure to be had when we fish the Texas oil rigs!” Captain Joel laughs before he continues, “Families with youth usually prefer a ½ day SPI fishing charter. That way they can take in more than just one of the outdoor vacation opportunities the area has to offer. I recommend those families take the other half of the day to do some bay fishing for Redfish in the Laguna Madre! And if you need a referral, I know a great guy for bay fishing!”
“Whatever kind of SPI offshore private charter fishing the serious angler is looking for, we can probably accommodate. I tell people, just give me a call! I’m sure we can figure something out that’ll make the whole family or crew happy!”
Captain Joel and the MegaBite crew are driven by the following values:
"Experience and passion for the sport can be seen in all aspects of business from the way we handle the bite to the way we handle first time anglers."
Experience and expertise:
“As a USCG licensed captain and ICC EU licensed captain, I am responsible for souls on board and in a bad situation, like unexpected weather, that is no joke. We take our commitment to having experience and knowing what’s going on on the water very seriously. In addition to being plugged into the latest technology on weather patterns, tide charts, and GPS bite markers, our team has over 55 years combined knowledge of the South Texas and Caribbean Sport Fishing grounds. If it’s happened here before, we’ve probably experienced it firsthand."
Commitment to Excellence:
“We do everything within our power to make sure that clients are happy and satisfied with their experience aboard MegaBite. We invest in top of the line gear and maintain our boat and gear so that it’s white, tight, and out of sight! Although, full disclosure, I have been known for not returning to shore in the event of sea sickness of a guest. My wife likes to remind me of the time I took my future mother-in-law and father-in-law offshore fishing for Sailfish in Isla Mujeres, Mexico, I did not return to shore when she fell ill. I did however make sure that she was as comfortable as possible until we got back to shore. My father-in-law had fun.”
Fun and Adventure:
“My wife tells me that she notices that clients always return to the dock with big smiles on their faces and stories to tell even if the box is not as full as we would have hoped-- that’s why they call it fishing and not catching, right?! I suppose that it does make a difference that we have beer.”
South Padre Island and the Texas Gulf Coast have many talented offshore fishing Captains and crew. Want to know what makes Captain Joel and the Megabite crew different?
Captain Joel says, “I’m on a mission to become an IGFA world record captain before 2023 and here’s the thing, as the Captain, I can’t be the Angler and that is where you come in. I am personally and professionally invested in catching the biggest and best fish the Texas Gulf Coast has to offer. I’m not holding anything back and when I get my mind to something, I’m a bulldog and don’t quit -- partner with me to catch an IGFA world record fish! Someone has got to be the angler, why not you?”
Call Captain Joel now to plan your South Padre offshore fishing world record adventure!
