The beautiful waters off the coast of South Padre Island offer the discerning angler a variety of options when it comes to dropping a line. Some people prefer the Laguna Madre Bay while others choose the Gulf of Mexico. At Megabite Sport Fishing, we care about education. Because of that, we want you to be properly informed about the experience you choose before you arrive. Here are a few key differences between bay fishing and deep sea fishing. If your destination is the Laguna Madre Bay you can expect to spend your day in shallow waters where you can actually see the fish you aim to catch. Once you make visual contact you are able to cast towards them. The Bay area is populated with smaller bait fish such as Mullet, Chad, and Silver Side as well as shrimp and crab.
The topographical features of the bay include grass flats, sand bars, and oyster beds. It is helpful to know that these areas attract a large amount of fish but they can also be dangerous because of the shallow water. You will need an experienced captain to navigate around the channels, find the fish, and steer clear of the oyster beds which can be detrimental to any vessel. One tip we love to share is to keep an eye on the sky. The birds have the best view of the water and fish you want to find because they are hunting for them as well. Follow where they gather and dive and you will stay busy for hours. Some of our favorite Laguna Madre Bay fish that are attracted to the bait fish in the area include Trout, Flounder, Sheepshead, Big Reds, and Black Drums. Currently, Megabite Sport Fishing Adventures focus on deep sea excursions on the Gulf of Mexico. When you fish with us, along with 4-6 of your fellow anglers, you can expect to arrive at your destination and have our pole in the deep water quickly. Oftentimes, you will have a bite within 20 minutes. Our boat, the Rampage 33, is fast, safe, and equipped with everything you need to spend your day on the water. Our team brings their experience of 30 plus years on the water which means we know where to find the trophy fish you want to catch and photograph for all your friends back home to see. Our specialty is locating and cruising the rip tide effectively. We know that bait fish love to gather here because the current stirs up the grasses, releasing oxygen and food. And where there are bait fish, there are sure to be larger fish such as King, Wahoo, Marlin, Tuna, Sail Fish, and Ling. We keep our eyes on the sky out here as well because once again the birds are excellent hunters able to find exactly what we are looking for and willing to lead the way. At Megabite we treat you like a discerning angler who wants not only a deep sea sport fishing adventure, but a day's worth of education you can take back and apply to every future fishing trip you take. We promise to provide you with a personal experience you will not soon forget. To schedule your next adventure, just click here.
